Sunday 25th November 2012

SLIGHTLY IMPROVING PICTURE - UPDATE

Sunday 25th November 2012 - 14:20 Things now seem to have calmed down around town in terms of flooding, though having just been out and around, roads are still flooded and some blocked. Police and other agencies are doing their best to make roads passable and warn of those that are not.

As of lunchtime, floods are receding and there is just one flood warning in the area still active - on the River Doe Lea at Bolsover Coking Works and Netherthorpe. The Flood alert only remains on the River Rother Upper Catchment this afternoon, affecting the River Rother from Chesterfield to Staveley and the Rivers Whiting, Drone and Hipper.

With any luck - and no rain - the picture will continue to improve. We will keep you informed.

As predicted - and given the continuing terrible weather - there are this morning flood warnings and alerts on all major rivers flowing through Chesterfield.

Derbyshire Police have also this morning issued a warning to motorists to take care to take care in the current weather conditions.

The Police say that, due to high winds and heavy rain, Derbyshire has suffered a number of blocked roads due to floods and fallen trees and urge motorists not to make journeys unless necessary and not to attempt to drive on roads closed due to flooding.

They have also asked that 999 is only used in emergencies - otherwise please use 101.
