Review:
'Red'

by Aaron Price, Film Studies Student at Chesterfield College

Fast, moving and ever so slightly funny, not something you expect from a group of 'elderly' actors trying to play spy. But yet the plot is cleverly woven, bringing a hint of rom-com into a fast action paced thriller and manages to set up each individual character quickly and strongly enough that you actually care about the characters from the word go.

RED (or 'Retired and Extremely Dangerous') follows former black ops agent 'Frank Moses' (Bruce Willis) and his team as he fights for his life, unravelling deceit and mystery, whilst trying to charm average girl Sarah Ross, played spot on by Mary-Louise Parker.

The story twists and turns stopping several times for brief catch ups, but never seems to leave the audience behind and the extreme action sequences will keep you firmly on the edge of your seat.

However the real treat is the cast. John Malkovich plays crazed 'Marvin Boggs' to perfection and guarantees to have the audience laughing; whilst Helen Mirren's 'Victoria' shines brightly in every scene, indeed both characters will leave you with several quotable phrases that promise to keep you laughing for ages afterwards, and Morgan Freeman's talents are clearly honoured with one of the most believable characters throughout the film.

The film will certainly become a guilty pleasure for many viewers as the witty and cheeky humour is sure to keep you smiling throughout the whole 111 minutes of runtime, which will fly by in an immense and emotional rollercoaster.
