Top 5 Tips To Keep Your Mattress In Good Condition Longer

Thursday 31st October 2019

A little care and maintenance can go a long way in keeping your mattress in good condition for years to come.

When you buy a good quality mattress, you expect it to provide comfort for many years. Many mattresses claim to provide lifelong comfort, but the average life of an average mattress is around ten years. However, there are some things you can do to extend its lifespan and keep it in good shape for as long as possible.

How you maintain and use your mattress can shorten or lengthen its life span.

Listed below are some useful tips to keep your mattress in good condition longer.

1. Always Use A Mattress Protector:

Mattress protectors are one of the best and simplest ways to protect the longevity of your mattresses.

A good mattress protector is useful to guard your mattress against spills and accidents. They also protect your mattress from the dust and debris that can otherwise make it into your bed. It also protects your mattress material from absorbing skin oils and sweat and prevents the buildup of dust mites, mould, and other allergens.

A protector also makes cleanup easier when spill accidents happen. Good quality mattress protectors can feel comfortable as a bedsheet.

A little care and maintenance can go a long way in keeping your mattress in good condition for years to come.

2. Rotate Your Mattress Regularly:

Every type of mattress can benefit from being rotated from time to time. Rotation helps in more even wear.

When you do not rotate your mattresses regularly, the side of your mattress that is more used is likely to depress more than the other side, resulting in uneven surface of your mattress.

Uneven softening and depressions in your mattress are not comfortable for resting and sleeping. It’s recommended to rotate your mattress 18- degrees from head to foot every two to six months. This is particularly important in the early years of your mattress.

3. Expose It To The Sunlight Occasionally:

It is also beneficial to expose your mattress to the sunlight once in a month or every two months.

When it is a sunny, dry day, let the light reach your mattress through window. Remove the bed cover or let it on if there is a probability of bed begs. The exposure to sun heat helps prevent the mattress from the humidity and moisture. This way, you can also keep the population of bed bugs of dust mites in check.

4. Follow The Cleaning Directions Of The Manufacturer:

A mattress should be kept clean to keep your sleeping space hygienic and your mattress healthy.

Many mattresses come with directions for removing stains and general cleaning. Most mattresses can be cleaned with a vacuum to remove the surface dust. Mild water and soap solution can be used to clean the stains, but they should be allowed to dry completely before you make the bed.

Harsh chemicals can damage your foam so do not use them. Stains should be treated immediately while the vacuuming should be one every one to three months.

5. No Jumping On The Bed:

Avoid jumping in the bed and refrain your children from doing so.

Jumping can cause your mattress to wear down more quickly. If you are hard on your mattress very often, you are reducing its life span.

So, if your mother is telling you not to jump on the bed, follow her advice!
