Law Unfazed By Only Summer Defeat
Despite losing 3 - 1 Nicky Law feels that the final warm up game pre season against Mansfield was a positive experience for the Reds team. As Alfreton prepare to begin the new Blue Square Bet North season Law said, "To be fair to Mansfield, they were fittest and strongest team we have played all pre-season and they came and made it difficult for us. "You could see their work ethic, but I thought we started very well and showed once again that we are going to create chances. We probably put five balls across the six-yard line which just wanted putting in. "We could have had four or five goals in the first half alone and maybe a draw would have been a fair result but it wasn’t to be. They took their chances and we didn’t. "It was a really good work out, a good, competitive game. Take nothing away from Mansfield, they dug in very well when we were on top. They were strong and physical but if we could have added a second before they scored I think we could maybe have gone on and won it." Law thinks it may not be a bad thing to have tasted defeat just a week before the big kick-off. He added, "There were a few lessons to be learned. We gave a poor goal away for the first one when we got caught in possession. The second one was highly debatable. Several of our players and plenty of the Mansfield players couldn’t see how it was a penalty with Matt (Wilson) appearing to get the ball first. "It was obviously a factor going behind so early in the second half and the third one we got caught on the break. That was somewhat disappointing because the way we have played over the past few weeks has been to combat the weakness of getting counter-attacked which I thought we succumbed to last year sometimes. "I don’t think we have got problems though and the game gave us a little bit more food for thought personnel wise. It was a good exercise."
