Counting Cuppas

The Mayor Of Chesterfield, Keith Morgan and the MayoressFriday 27th August 2010
So, just HOW many cups of tea will the Mayor drink during official engagements in his year of office?

That's the innocent question posed by the Mayor's Secretary which led to the Mayoral Cup Appeal being launched. It's proved to be a huge hit already and has bought out the competitive streak with some folk ringing up to ask just how many the Mayor drinks at each event and how many events he’ll attend this year!!

It's the major focus of the Appeal campaign this year and begins by encouraging people of all ages to participate in events throughout the town by paying a pound and having a guess how many cuppas the Mayor will drink whilst representing the Borough.

There's also a chance for anyone to host a Mayoral coffee morning or afternoon tea, again to raise funds for the Appeal. It's no need to be big but, by encouraging people to get together over a cuppa you can do your bit for Fairplay and the Samaritans in your local community.

Northern Tea Merchants on Chatsworth Road have kindly put together a package for these parties - tea bags, coffee with monies donated to the Appeal. It's a real team effort and much appreciated by the Mayor and Mayoress.

The piece de resistance of the campaign however is the specially created tea cup. Designed by Clare Gage, it’s a visual symbol of the whole initiative. Clare is a nationally known award winning ceramic designer whose work has featured in many up market home magazines. Based in Chesterfield she was only too glad to be involved in this Appeal. All tea cups are numbered limited editions, with a beautiful scented candle wax inside. They have been specially edged in the colours of the Appeal.

Details of how to organise a coffee morning or afternoon tea or where to buy a candle cup are available from the Mayor’s secretary Vivien Miller.
