Flagship Centre Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary

Tuesday 24th May 2011

One of Chesterfield's flagship business centres is celebrating its tenth year of nurturing, supporting and strengthening businesses in the Borough.

the flagship business centre - Dunston Innovations Centre celebrates its 10 year anniversary

Dunston Innovations centre
, which was opened in April 2001 by Chesterfield Borough Council, is located on the Dunston Technology Park in Chesterfield. It provides 22,000 feet square of office and Rent-a-Desk space for up to 40 businesses and attracts new, young and innovative businesses.

Cllr John Burrows, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council said: "Dunston Innovation Centre has been an outstanding success for Chesterfield, creating jobs and economic growth. It has proven to be a fertile seed-bed for new business start-ups and its encouraging that after 10 years we're still seeing fresh talent setting-up in Chesterfield and establishing their businesses in the Borough."

Over the last 10 years, Dunston has supported the development of a number of notable businesses including B2Net Ltd and CS2 Lawyers, both of which are now firmly established in their own premises on the Technology Park.

Dunston Innovation Centre was Chesterfield Borough Council's first large installation of Ground Source heating and cooling and in 2001 it was believed to be the largest such installation in Western Europe.  It is an all-electric building and the power is generated from renewable resources.

The Centre was built to provide modern high specification workspace and in-house support services to attract new innovative businesses. Dunston has maintained a consistently high occupancy level over the years. The Centre is managed in partnership with the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce along with the Tapton Innovation Centre.

The Chamber is a major source of business support for tenants and many tenant businesses are members in their own right.  Since 1997 a total of just over 200 businesses have been supported at the two Innovation Centres with rooms or the RAD facilities.

There are currently 15 companies in the Chesterfield area employing over 400 people that benefited from starting at Dunston.
