Steelers Captain Jono Undergoes Surgery

Tuesday 20th September 2011

Sheffield Steelers Captain Jonathan Phillips (below) has undergone surgery to repair damaged knee ligaments.

Sheffield Steelers Captain jonathan Phillips undergoes surgery

Phillips underwent the operation in Coventry on Monday evening with early indications that all has proceeded well. "The surgeon has told me the operation was a success" said Phillips. "The ligament came off the bone cleanly and therefore was easy to re-attach.

"I feel sore at the moment and didn't have the best nights sleep - but I'm pleased the operation is over and can't wait to return to Sheffield and start the rehabilitation as soon as possible."

Phillips suffered a similar injury 12 months ago and missed 3 months of last season. It's hoped that this operation will take away the risk of a similar injury re-occurring in the future.

Head Coach Ryan Finnerty said "We had two specialists' look at Jono before we proceeded with the operation, just to make sure we got the treatment spot on for him. We need him back as soon as possible but we need him and his knee back strong. This operation assures that."

Sheffield Steelers next home game is on Saturday 24th September 2011 at the Motorpoint Arena Vs Coventry Blaze
Face off: 7.00pm (Doors open at 6pm)
