Seven Swans A Swimming...

Sunday August 22nd 2010
Seven certainly is the lucky number for the parents of these Cygnets who patrol the waters of the Chesterfield Canal and the River Rother.

Seven Swans A Swimming

Experts say it's unusual for as many as seven babies to survive and mature and although broods can be as big as ten, it's more common to see no more than five.

Wardens at Tapton Lock Visitor Centre reported that all seven cygnets were from the same family, and all were born around May this year.

Having disappeared for a while, they returned to this stretch of water on Thursday and were snapped taking advantage of the good Sunday weather between Tapton lock and
Wheeldon Mill, just behind Sainsbury's.
