Nuisance Fires In Mastin Moor - Police Seek Information

Tuesday 19th April 2011

Police are appealing for information after Derbyshire Fire service was called to a burning cabin on Worksop Road in the early hours of Monday, April 18th.

It's the latest in a series of fires that both the police and fire service believe may have been started deliberately.

The cabin was burnt out and several items which belonged to the Mastin Moor Allotment Association, including gardening tools, a barbecue, 20 chairs, two tables, two Calorgas heaters and camping equipment were destroyed.

The incident comes a month after the fire service was called to a fire on Norbriggs Flash Nature Reserve, Bent Lane, on March 18th where offenders had smashed fence panels and set them alight.

Police and fire officers were then called after a group of youths were seen setting fire to the fence at the rear of Norbriggs Primary School on March 20th.

PCSO Sue Cooke, of the Staveley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "Nuisance fire setting may seem like a bit of fun but young people often don't realise how quickly fire spreads and how disastrous the consequences may be.

"All of these locations are within a five minute walk of each other and I would urge anyone with information about any of the fires to contact us."

If you have information about any of these fires call Derbyshire police on 0345 123 3333 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
