Major Fire At Chesterfield Royal Hospital

There is a major incident at Chesterfield Royal Hospital tonight with 10 fire engines in attendance.

The first call came at 21.58pm with the Main Entrance reported as being on fire. Within half an hour 10 fire crews had been deployed from Alfreton, Ripley, Clay Cross, Bolsover and South Yorkshire also in attendance.

Police and Ambulances are at the scene (above) along with Chesterfield council Planning Officers and Enviromental Health officers.

At 22.35 pm it is being reported as the latest update from the Fire Service that the fire has now broken through roof level and that crews are making steady progress with 4 main jets currently in use and 10 fire crews still in attendance. As yet the cause of the fire is still unknown and there are no reports of any injuries.

Eye -witnesses report that the road Is currently cordoned off to vehicles.

A spokeswoman from the hospital has tonight confirmed that the hospital is closed to 999 patients and they are being taken to Kingsmill Mansfield. Patients who would travel to A &E are being advised not to do so. Wards however are not being evacuated and there are no plans to do so unless the Fire service advises so
