Chesterfield's only independent junior school, St Peter & St Paul, based at Hady Hill, teaches children between the ages of 4 to 11 and currently has 125 pupils.
It jumped to 68th place in a survey of the Country's top 600 independent schools, having been in 109th place a year ago.
Based on a three-year average of the percentage of pupils achieving level 5 at Key Stage 2, one level above the standard target for primary schools, St Peter & St Paul has outperformed every other similar school in the region.
Headmaster Andrew Lamb said: "We are passionate in our belief that School should be about much more than lessons alone. With our broad educational experience, we unlock potential and get the best from each child.
"Dedicated teachers, who are subject specialists, focus on individual needs in small teaching groups so each and every child flourishes. This survey merely confirms what we continually strive to achieve."
