Chesterfield Borough Council's Street Scene Enforcement team has been working with pupils at Parkside School to help improve local parks.

The students, who came up with their own ideas on how to improve the parks, built bird boxes and insect habitats (pictured left) around Rothervale Washlands off Derby Road. They also created wildlife habitats, litter picked and surveyed the Washlands for wildlife.

At Langer Lane young people helped design and build a living wall, carried out litter picks and came up with a mural design to transform the changing rooms.

Cllr Ian Openshaw, Lead Member for Sustainable Communities and Climate Change at the Council said: "We want to help educate young people about their local environment. Our Enforcement Officers, who deal with the tough issues of investigations and penalties, work hard with schools, youth services and the Community Task Force to highlight the impact that littering and dog fouling has on the places we live and work in."
