Midland Youth Cup Semi Final - Chesterfield 5-4 Lincoln City.
Chesterfield U18’s reached the Final of the Midland Youth Cup on Thursday afternoon, with a nervy 5-4 victory over Lincoln City at the B2net Stadium.
Chesterfield who are going well in their league programme faced a Lincoln who were quite the opposite.
The Spireites started well with good ball possession and took the lead from the penalty spot when Jordan Burrow was bundled over in the area by Kerry Nicholas in the goal for the Red Imps. Burrow slotted home the penalty.
Ellis Wall had a long range effort which went wide from distance as the Imps midfield was going awol.
Lincoln pulled a goal back, when a long ball played upfield caught the defence knapping and Sam Turner slotted past Sam West in goal for the young Spireites.
Chesterfield grabbed hold of the lead just prior to the end of the first half, Jack Waddle saw his shot saved by Nicholas and Jacob Hazel fired home inside the area.
Chesterfield deservedly took the lead following the start of the second half with a goal by promising full back Jordan Edridge. Jacob Hazel floated a ball to the back post where the waiting Edridge tapped home.
Lincoln immediately pulled a goal back through Sam Turner who fired home from outside the area.
Chesterfield again piled on the pressure and were awarded with a fouth goal through Burrow, when a super cross from Edridge saw Burrow flick a header past Nicholas at the back post.
Lincoln struck back with two goals in two minutes to level the game, sloppy defending from a corner saw Elliot Green hammer a free header into the back of the net, moments after the restart and James Wilson was allowed to burst down the right hand side and fire from an acute angle past West and Lincoln had levelled. Chesterfield were a little shellshocked but managed to compose themselves enough to create a couple more chances through Wall and Hazel.
With two minutes into the added on time, Waddle danced down the left hand side and pulled over an inviting cross which Burrow nodded past West and Chesterfield had won the game.
Chesterfield face Rushden and Diamonds in the final, with venue and format of the final i.e. either a one off final or two legged match to be decided.
