PANTHERS 1st XV 51 - 31 BOSTON 1st XV
Panthers played host to a good, well organized side from Boston and a high scoring game ensued.
Starting the stronger, Panthers were soon on the score card with a try from Ant Barnett. Boston replied and set the pattern for the half as each side scored in turn. As the interval came with Panthers scored a converted try to lead 22 - 14.
Panthers started the second half in full flow and scored a try only for Boston to reply.
The game ebbed and flowed with Panthers taking a comfortable 15 point lead only for Boston to pull back to 32 to 31 in Panthers favour.
The final quarter however went to the Chesterfield side. Eddie Williams, making a return to the side, came on for the final quarter and was awesome as Panthers romped home by 51 points to 31.
Try scorers for Chesterfield were Ricky Poulter (2), Ant Barnett, Rob Collins, David Simms, Tom Arnold and Richard Cook. Ant Barnett kicked two penalties and five conversions.
Man of the match was Carl Goucher.
Saturday sees the team travel to Aldridge in the 2nd round of the National Cup.
PANTHERS LADIES 24 - 31 LUTTERWORTH LADIES
Following last season's promotion, the Panthers' Ladies opened their campaign in Midlands 1 with a close game against a strong Lutterworth team.
Tries from Mica Grossett kept the team in contention throughout and the Chesterfield team continued to press for an equalising try right up to the final whistle.
Next Sunday sees the Ladies travel to Longton to take on the current league leaders.
OADBY (U16's) 25 - 15 PANTHERS (U16's)
Seeking stronger opponents, the Chesterfield squad travelled into Leicestershire and were unlucky to loose an enthralling game as both teams played some good attacking rugby.
Tries for the Panthers came from James Marriott (2) and Matthew McMaster.
Man of the match was Rob Davison.
PANTHERS (U14's) 51 - 17 BARNSLEY (U14's)
Chesterfield's winning form continued with a roaring victory over a lively Barnsley side.
The win was all the more satisfying as it was achieved with a number of experienced players being unavailable through injury, sickness or being deliberately rested to allow the whole squad to get on the pitch.
Early pressure from the Barnsley forwards forced Chesterfield to defend desperately but they were equal to the challenge and gradually began to take control, dominating possession and feeding the backs with some fast ball to release their potent attacking power.
Panthers tries came from James Marshall (2), Aiden Swift (2), Matt Ford, Kane Samuels and Alistair Taylor, who also kicked three conversions.
Man of the match was James Marshall.
PANTHERS (U13's) 5 - 46 MATLOCK (U13's)
The end to a full morning of rugby at Stonegravels saw a strong Matlock side dominate a game that was played in good rugby style.
Attacking from the off they proved to be to strong for the home team in spite of a spirited performance.
The Panthers only try of the game came from Jack Large.
PANTHERS (U12's) 7 - 31 EAST RETFORD (U12's)
A spirited performance from the Chesterfield side was not quite enough to hold a stronger and more experienced East Retford team.
Although holding their own in the scrum and showing some ferocious tackling when the Retford backs had possession the side had no answer to the pace of the Retford wings and tries came out wide to take the game away from Chesterfield.
Man of the Match was Aled Jackson.
The squad continues to develop and any one that is interested in having a go should contact Fred Pell on 01246 857480 for further details.
