6th - 7th November 2010

Monday 8th November 2010

KESTEVEN (U17's)  14 - 13 PANTHERS (U17's)

Chesterfield made the long journey to Grantham for their latest league encounter and put in a creditable performance, although the score-line doesn't reflect their dominance.

Chesterfield started the stronger of the two teams and took the game to the home side. This was rewarded when Sam Curry kicked a penalty midway into the first half.

Kesteven rallied and ran in a try under the posts.

Chesterfield re-grouped and again went at the home side and before the end of the half Michael White recorded his first try of the season to give the visitors an 8 - 7 lead at half time.

The second half saw Chesterfield camped in the home side's 22, but good work by the Kesteven backs saw the ball, in an instant, being defended by the visitors on their own try line and after the fifth phase touched down for a try which was converted.

From the kick-off Chesterfield were again in the ascendancy, taking the ball to the opposition and eventually Marcus Walker crashed through the Kesteven defence to touch down. The conversion was missed and Panthers ended up loosing by the narrowest possible margin.

Man of the Match was H. Fokinther.

GRIMSBY (U14's)  10 - 24 PANTHERS (U14's)

A strong start saw Chesterfield take the lead after only two minutes when centre Matt Lamin crashed over under the posts from a quickly taken penalty and Alistair Taylor converted.

Continued pressure from the restart kept the pressure on Grimsby and eventually Lamin crossed the line for his second try.

On the fifteen minute mark a blindside move at a Chesterfield scrum on the half-way line got the ball to Nick Foan on the right wing who turned on his boosters and ran in from 30 metres to score under the posts. Taylor converted to take the score to 19-0 to the Panthers.

Grimsby then rallied and started to use the big men in their pack to take the game directly to Chesterfield down the middle of the field. Despite strong resistance from Chesterfield the home team deservedly scored two close quarter tries to bring the score to 19-10 at half time.

Grimsby kept up the tactic after the break and continued to run their big men at Chesterfield.

Strong defensive work however kept them out and when eventually the ball was kicked long the Panthers Full Back, Nick Foan, gratefully caught and threaded his way through the Grimsby team before getting it out to Alex Winnard on the right wing who ran on to score a brilliant try in the corner. Game over? Yes!

Man of the match was Nick Foan.
