OXFORD LADIES  12 - 83 PANTHERS LADIES

A RESOUNDING VICTORY TAKES LADIES
TO THE TOP!

After the long enforced break, the Panthers Ladies finally got back into action with this away trip to Oxford and despite being two players short they produced an outstanding performance with a victory which takes them to the top of the league.

A good all round performance saw tries coming from all angles as both forwards and backs scored almost at will. Leading the charge was Mica Grossett with eight tries.

Kim Hyslop and Anna Parkin ran in two tries each and further scores came from Anna-Louise Glendenning, Laura Shepherd and Cath Wynn. Kim Hyslop kicked four conversions to complete the scoring.

In the forwards Emily Brown was outstanding, giving support all over the field, whilst Hyslop and Glendenning starred in the backs.

Having achieved promotion last season the prospects for a second step up are looking good and the Club is actively seeking to strengthen the squad.

Any Ladies wishing to join the squad for training and matches can get more information via the Club's website at www.chesterfieldrugby.co.uk  or by phoning 01246 857480.

PANTHERS (1st XV)  11 - 7 BELPER (1st XV)

PANTHERS TAME HIGH FLYING BELPER

Second in the league Belper came to Stonegravels and found a resurgent Panthers team in top form in a game which was made all the more difficult by a strong swirling wind.

A scoreless first half saw some sound defensive play and strong tackling as the Panthers team kept out their opponents and then turning round into the wind the Chesterfield lads took control.

A period of sustained pressure brought several penalties to the home side as they worked their way slowly forwards and eventually one came within kinking range.

Despite the conditions, Antony Barnett stepped up and calmly slotted the kick through the posts. Following a similar passage of play Barnett repeated the act and Panthers lead 6 - 0.

This only served to spur on the visitors and a period of dominance followed, but strong tackling and good all round team work by the Panthers prevented Belper crossing the line.

Eventually Panthers started to get the ball again and it was worked to Tom Arnold who broke through the Belper backs to make a long run and touch down to open up a safe lead.

Belper never gave up and though a late converted try kept the match on edge right to the end it was to be Panther's day.

Man of the match in what was a good all round team performance was Bruce Ramage.

PANTHERS (2nd XV)  12 - 7 MOSBOROUGH (2nd XV)

A tight game saw Panthers take the lead against a determined Mosborough team wit a try from Gary Bates, only to lose it when Mosborough went over for a try which was converted.

A convincing performance though was capped when Kyle Gambles scored late in the second half and then kicked his own conversion to seal the victory.

Man of the match was James Williams.

CHESTERFIELD VETS  26 - 15 EAST RETFORD VETS

VETS RUGBY RETURNS TO STONEGRAVELS

After an absence of several seasons, Vets rugby was once again played at Stonegravels when a combined Chesterfield Panthers, Tupton and Dronfield team took on East Retford.

Belying their years several outstanding performances were put in by the players of both sides but the Chesterfield team proved to be the stronger and ran in 26 points in the first half to take an unassailable lead.

Tries came from Darren Lunn (2), Mark Emmerson, Chris Brailsford and Richard Bygrave. A Greg Fletcher conversion and two from Lunn completed the total.

The second half proved to be exactly the opposite of the first as a resurgent Retford team made all the running and touched down three times.

The Chesterfield defence however managed to hold firm as the end drew near and the home side ended as winners by 26 points to 15.

Man of the Match was Mark Emmerson.

Congratulations should also go to Mark Blair whose splendid efforts in getting the team established has once again brought Vets rugby to the town.

PANTHERS (U17's)  33 - 0 MANSFIELD (U17's)

Panthers continued their winning ways in this NLD League game with a convincing victory over near neighbours Mansfield.

Tries came from Sam Curry, Dillon Samuels, Charles Richmond, Tom Schofield and Jordan White. Curry kicked four conversions.

Additional encouragement came from the fact that for the first time this season the team kept a clean sheet, a tribute to the excellent coaching work being carried out by Bob Curry and Tony Winnard.

Man of the match was Michael White.

PANTHERS (U16's)  22 - 22 NEWARK (U16's)

An enthralling game saw Panthers held by a strong Newark team in this first match of the group stage of the NLD Cup.

Tries from Joe Pursglove, James Kennedy and Jordan Ingledew plus a penalty and two conversions from Ingledew brought up the Panthers total.

COUGARS (U16's)  0 - 10 MARKET RASEN(U16's)

A good performance was never enough to beat a strong Market Rasen side who ran in two unconverted tries.

Good all round performances from all of the team meant that the man of the match award was split between them.
