News And Match Reports
12th - 13th March 2011

Thurssday 17th March 2011

EAST RETFORD (1st XV)  3 - 7 PANTHERS (1st XV)

Panthers travelled to third placed East Retford and came away with the points from a very tight game.

Having gone behind to a penalty, the Chesterfield forwards dominated the home side and with Jamie Barnett in total control at the lineout, it was to be a Panthers' day.

The only try of the game came midway through the first half after a superb drive by the forwards was finished off by Rick Poulter. Antony Barnett converted.

The second half saw some resolute defending by both teams and no further score came so Panthers ran out as winners in a game that had not been a walkover.

Man of the match was Alex Hill.

PANTHERS (U17's)  46 - 12 BELPER (U17's)

Chesterfield, playing their first competitive match for three weeks, entertained local rivals Belper at Stonegravels and it turned into a try fest with the home side running in eight tries to Belper's two.

Man of the match Ben Sommerton got proceedings under way with two tries in the first half and with captain Jess Vardy adding another and a conversion by Jack Heath, they lead 17 - 7 at half time.

Belper took the game to the home side after the break and were rewarded with a try, but Chesterfield then rallied and ran in 29 unanswered points, such was their domination in every aspect of the game.

Tries came from Sommerton (2), George Atkin, Jack Heath and Marcus Walker, with conversions by Jack Heath and Steve Rawson.

PANTHERS (U14's)  34 - 7 ASHFIELD (U14's)

PANTHERS ROAR TO FINAL

This decisive win by six tries to one over favourites Ashfield has put Chesterfield into the Three Counties' Shield final on 17th April.

"This is a fantastic achievement by all the players in the squad" said Richard Pollitt, Head Coach of the Panthers side. "They should be very proud of the way they played with such great determination and enormous skill. This was the best performance of the season."

After an even start to the game the Chesterfield side took the lead when Dan Burrows crashed over and then with two minutes of the half remaining Alistair Taylor ran from his own 22 to touch down under the posts. He kicked the conversion to give a 12 - 0 lead at the break.

The second half saw the Panthers in total control and two further tries for Taylor plus two from Nick Foan gave a comfortable victory to carry the team into the final on 17th April.

Man of the match was Adam Rodd.

SOUTHWELL (U10's)  10 - 50 PANTHERS (U10's)
YARNBURY (U10's) 0 - 30 PANTHERS (U10's)

The Panthers side travelled to Southwell for this triangular tournament and came away as victors in both games.

Tries from Harvey Fletcher (4), Bess Heath (6), Oliver Jenkins (2), Jaydon Slatcher (2), Finbar Irani and Tom Hawkins brought the two victories.
