Chesterfield Panthers RUFC are delighted to have been the recipients of a grant of £750 from the Derbyshire County Council Leadership Fund to help them in their continued work in assisting the participation of young people in sport, and in particular in promoting the benefits that will come from participating in physical fitness and teamwork activities.

The Club currently runs rugby teams at all ages from Under 8's to Under 18's and has both Mens and Ladies Senior sides, with around 230 players taking part in the sport on any weekend of the season. Leadership from RFU qualified coaches is provided for all teams and junior players continue to move through the ranks into senior rugby.

A cheque was presented to a selection of the Club's junior players before last weekend's games by County Councillor David Chapman.

Speaking at the presentation, Councillor Chapman said that he "firmly believes that promoting physical fitness in young people will help to prevent heart disease and other illnesses later on in life, whilst participation in team sports encourages young people to mix with all members of the community and those who have played as a team are more attractive to future employers."
