The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield have officially opened the refurbished Gardeners Arms pub on Glumangate.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield officially open the Gardeners Arms on Glumangate with new licensees, Tiffany and Aaron
As reported earlier in the Chesterfield Post, the once popular drinking destination is hoping to recapture some lost trade and is now open for both nights out and also lunches and morning coffees.
Cllr Peter Barr is committed to supporting businesses in the town during his official year and was optimistic about the future for new licensees Tiffany Bumford and Aaron Smith as they embark on their new business venture.
After watching the Mayoress pull the first pint in the pub (above), we had a chat with His Worship and he began by telling us that he thought of it as a "Great day for business in Chesterfield, especially on Glumangate as it's a thriving area - there's the daytime economy, with all the commercial side of business - they have to go somewhere for lunchtime refreshments and it's a key position, the others are very busy, so it's sharing it around and equally, you don't want an empty building."
He added that it's good for Chesterfield as, "It's very much against the trend. Many pubs are closing and obviously, from their point of view, they can capture this market and expand so it's very good that we've got a refurbished pub, it looks really good today."
He agreed that it's also nice to see Tiffany and Aaron choosing the town, "They've been in Derby and Rotherham and brought that expertise here. It's another pair of eyes on Chesterfield. They've done their homework on us as they looked for a pub to take on and have given us a vote of confidence, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops."
