Michael took over the pub (above) after working his way up from pot washer.  Born and bred in the village, it was always his dream to make the pub the best in the village.

He said: "I've always loved this pub and I've really enjoyed running it and building up the trade. It's important to me that we have a big presence in that village and provide what people want."

The pub serves 6 real cask ales and traditional pub food as well as holding regular band nights, plus activities for children in the summer in the pub's lovely beer garden.

Ian Wanless, Regional Manager said: "Hearty congratulations to Michael and team at The Wellington Hotel on coming runner up in the Best Community Pub award. It's a terrific achievement."
