A Busy Weekend!

Monday 23rd May 2011

Edale Mountain Rescue Team has had another busy weekend with three rescues over Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday the Edale team was called to Bamford Edge to assist an air ambulance crew with a climber who was suffering an acute medical problem causing severe headaches.  Due to the urgent nature of the situation, team members evacuated the casualty rapidly to the helicopter above the edge in a vacuum mattress, rather than the normal procedure of using the stretcher as well.

Shortly afterwards, as team members were making their way home, a second callout was received at Stanage Edge where a climber had suffered a fall of around 10ft / 3m onto his feet before pitching forward and sustaining a head injury.

The climber had made his own way down to the car park, and arrived there as the team was arriving on scene. Team members including a paramedic assessed his injuries, and as he was complaining of pain in his back, immobilised him as a precaution, before he was flown to hospital by the same air ambulance team that attended the previous incident.

On Sunday shortly before 4pm, the team was called to the Longshaw Estate in the central Peak District to a gentleman in his eighties who had tripped and fallen on a path. After assessment by a team paramedic and transport back to the car park, the man agreed with the attending ambulance crew that he did not require transport to hospital.
