Edale Mountain Rescue Team -
2,000 Hours And Counting

Wednesday 26th September 2012

The last week has seen Edale Mountain Rescue Team called out 3 times. These jobs have taken the total man hours spent on rescues in 2012 to just over 2,000.

On Thursday afternoon, a couple walking on Kinder became lost when the cloud descended. After calling for help, they managed to locate themselves again as the team were preparing to deploy.

On Saturday afternoon, a walker slipped while climbing up rocks at Stanage End and was knocked unconscious. The team attended, along with the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

On Saturday afternoon, a walker slipped while climbing up rocks at Stanage End and was knocked unconscious. The team attended, along with the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (above).

As well as providing medical support, the helicopter flew team members and equipment up to the site from the A57. After treatment on scene, the casualty was carried to the aircraft and flown to hospital in Sheffield.

Just as team members were settling in for the night at around 10:30pm on Saturday, they were called out to assist Yorkshire Ambulance Service with an unusual incident in Stannington, Sheffield.

A young man had fallen down a steep slope while taking a short cut home through thick woodland. He suffered a fractured pelvis and needed to be transported across difficult terrain to the nearest road and a waiting ambulance. After treatment by ambulance staff and a team doctor, the man was carefully carried to safety by team members.
