Being Cruel To Be Kind?

Thursday 11th November 2010

Chesterfield RSPCA are investigating the circumstances behind a case which centre Manager Richard Woodwards says is one of the most bizarre he's seen in 10 years of working for the Charity.

Olive the CatOlive the cat (pictured left) was found at North Wingfield last Saturday 6th and taken to the RSPCA by a concerned member of the public.

The young tortoiseshell cat had suffered an eye injury resulting in an open gash to the side of her right eye that had been dressed with a children's plaster and her head wrapped in black electrical tape.

Believed to be around one year old, and what Richard describes as a "very nice cat, well handled and socialised", Olive has been reportedly seen around the North Wingfield area before, though not with these injuries which staff believe may have been caused by squeezing through somewhere.

The RSPCA is now making an appeal for anyone who owns Olive, or for anyone who knows who may have done this to her, to come forward and contact the centre on 01246 273358.

Olive the cat after treatmentOlive has now been stitched and treated by a vet (left), and is doing well at the Spital centre.

Inspector Dave Macadam is investigating who did this and asks that a professional treats injuries like this, saying that any member of the public finding an injured animal should contact the RSPCA and be given an "emergency treatment code" meaning that it can be taken to a vet and treated at the expense of the charity in the first instance, but not to attempt to treat it themselves.
