Wednesday 25th November 2010
Shoppers are invited to join in some festive fun - while supporting local businesses - at a series of Christmas Markets being held in North East Derbyshire this year.
Clay Cross, Eckington, Killamarsh and Dronfield will each host a Christmas-themed event as part of new project to boost markets across the district.
A chance to meet Santa's reindeer, Christmas grottos, ice rinks, festive food and a range of stalls are among the attractions on offer at the events, which are being held on the dates below:
- Dronfield Christmas Market - Sat 27th November, from 10am to 4pm
- Clay Cross Christmas Market - Sat 11th December, from 9am to 3pm
- Eckington Christmas Market - Fri 17th December, from 9am to 1pm
- Killamarsh Christmas Market - Thu 23rd December, from 9am to 1pm
The event is part of North East Derbyshire District Council's 'Marketing the Markets' project - launched thanks to £170,000 worth of funding from the Bolsover and North East Derbyshire (BNED) LEADER Approach.
Cllr Pat Kerry, Member with responsibility for the Economy, said: "This project is all about helping our markets to thrive - pulling in more visitors and boosting the local economy.
"These Christmas Markets will kick-start a new calendar of events which are planned for the sites over the coming year, and we hope to see people turn out in force to shop at and enjoy the atmosphere of their local market."
The authority is working closely with Eckington Parish Council, Clay Cross Parish Council, Killamarsh Community Trust Association and Dronfield Town Council which manage the markets in their towns.
