Love YOUR Local Market

Monday 31st January 2011

"They're Valuable Assets", says Cllr Pat Kerry from NE Derbyshire District Council as she encourages local people to shop at local markets in the region.

Throughout February, a series of events will run at markets across Clay Cross, Killamarsh and Eckington, in support of the 'Love your Market' campaign.

The first event will be held on Saturday 12th February at Clay Cross Market. There will be many free activities, including fun fair rides, balloon modelling, face painting and a chocolate fountain. It will all happen. There will also be a selection of market stalls in the Clay Cross Social Centre along a Valentine theme.

Similar events will be happening in Killamarsh on Thursday 24th February and Eckington on Friday 25th February - details can be found on the Council's website.

Cllr Pat Kerry, Member with responsibility for the Economy, said: "Our markets are valuable assets to our communities and, through initiatives like this, we want to encourage people to get the most out of them.

"These events in February will build on the success of the market events we held at Christmas and we hope to see many people there!"

The events are being run as part of the council's Marketing the Market project - funded by the Bolsover and North East Derbyshire Leader Approach.

The project is also supported by Clay Cross Parish Council, Eckington Parish Council, Killamarsh Community Trust Association and Dronfield Town Council which manage the markets in their towns.
