The Trades Hub - Ready To Build Foundations In Chesterfield

Friday 29th March 2013

On the 5th April, The Chesterfield Trades Hub will be launching their first construction networking event at the Proact Stadium from 2.00 pm.

The Trades Hub is Ready To Build Foundations In Chesterfield

Uniquely being a trades only networking organization, The Trades Hub is launching in association with Recon Electrical Wholesale with the sole aim to help local trades people to pass work, meet new trade contacts and to learn the secrets of marketing.

Having been in business for years 17 in Chesterfield and a member of The Derbyshire Trusted Traders Scheme, Russ Gratton of Recon Electrical (below right) who will be hosting the Hub, knows first hand how business can be tough for trades people.

Having been in business for years 17 in Chesterfield and a member of The Derbyshire Trusted Traders Scheme, Russ Gratton of Recon Electrical who will be hosting the Hub, knows first hand how business can be tough for trades people.

"We all know about Rogue Traders, and we have all come across some rogues in our time too that tend to give our industry a bad name. The construction industry is also pretty tough in the times of economic decline, and every little push we can have helps. We all want to keep business opportunities within the region, and this is the main aim of The Trades Hub," says Russ.

"This is why I became involved in The Trades Hub to begin with, as I wanted to be known as a reputable tradesman who delivers what they promise. I also wanted to build up my contacts in my industry and meet like-minded people."

The first Trades Hub group, The Sheffield Skyscraper Hub, opened last year and has 35 members who meet every month, with plenty of visitors attending too.

The Hubs are open to anyone within the construction and building industry, enabling business to be freely passed between members.

Last month alone, over £100,000 of business was passed between businesses in The Sheffield Skyscraper Hub, making the decision to open another Hub very easy.

"The format of the monthly meetings is very simple," explains Russ. "We meet from 2.00pm - 4.30pm, and there is informal networking, a late lunch and drinks. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and a lot of members arrive straight from work in their overalls. Everyone introduces their business, asks for referrals and passes business between each other.

"There is also a 'Share the Magic Slot' where members learn more about how to effectively market their business."

With the huge success of the Sheffield Trades Hub, and already great interest in the new Chesterfield Spire Hub, business is looking up for the region within the construction industry.
