John Sheridan (left) made 5 changes to the squad facing Notts County at Meadow Lane on a bright sunny afternoon.
Notable names on the team sheet were Dariwka, back from loan at Hinckley and making his first ever start in a blue shirt. Both Craig Westcarr and Jimmy Juan were back on the team sheet after coming back from injury and having figured in part for the reserves midweek. Dean Morgan's three goals during the week, including that penalty against Sheffield Wednesday must have gone some way to earning him a place in the squad here today.
Over 1,600 Chesterfield fans made the short trip to Meadow Lane for the second local derby game in 7 days and were no doubt hoping to bring home a further 3 points from another neighbouring county.
Chesterfield came into this game unbeaten in 8, but still 23rd in League One.
Notts County were forced into a change even before the game started as Sheehan was apparently injured in the warm up and replaced by Harley.
Both sides started brightly with chances early on - Westcarr's effort was blocked by Nelson and moments later Lee Hughes had an attempt which he just couldn't make count.
A shot on 19 minutes from Judge, identified by Assistant Manager Tommy Wright in his interview with us yesterday, as one of County's biggest threats, was caught by Tommy Lee - once again proving why he's consistently voted Man of the Match by the Chesterfield faithful.
There was a scare for Chesterfield on the half hour mark when Jimmy Juan went down injured in the centre circle, but, after treatment by Team Physio Jamie Hewitt, was back in action moments later.
It didn't last long though as he was replaced by Jordan Bowery within minutes, presumably as a precaution.
With 2 minutes added for injury time, once again Lee Hughes looked a danger, with his late effort caught by Tommy Lee. Despite that, the game finished 0-0 at half time.
HT 0-0
The half time team talk had obviously had an impact, as the Spireites came out fighting in the second half. An early chance for Jordan Bowery was caught by Nelson, followed a couple of minutes later by an effort by Davis which went just wide.
A free kick, taken by Lowry on 63 minutes created another chance for the Spireites but, though on target, was caught again by Nelson.
Perhaps the best chance of the half came on 75 when Jack Lester hit the post and tried hard with the rebound but it was saved - but once again Chesterfield rattled the Magpies.
By far the most attacking side during the 2nd 45, Chesterfield seemed determined to spoil Keith Curle's first Saturday in charge of County. However, just moments later and despite the Spireites looking by far more likely to score, Forte scored for the home side.
In direct response, John Sheridan replaced Morgan with Nicky Ajose with 10 minutes to go. However a shot by Judge on 88 nearly doubled the home advantage but fortunately for the Spireites, it hit the bar.
Two late corners for Chesterfield raised Spireite hopes but both were cleared, and just 4 minutes later the whistle blew, consigning an endeavouring Spireites side to their second loss in 8 games.
