It was assistant gaffer Chris Morgan who faced the press ahead of this Saturday's game away at Southend.
Ahead of the squad's trip to Roots Hall where they will take on Phil Brown's 'Shrimpers', the former Sheffield United U21 manager said he was very much settled in his role at Chesterfield telling The Chesterfield Post, "I'm enjoying it, it's been a refreshing change. When you're at a certain place for a long time, it's a difficult decision to leave Sheffield United, but an easy decision to work with Danny again.
"I've a lot of respect for him and for him to pick the phone up and ask for me to join him ... It took two seconds for me to answer him!"
Asked for his thoughts on Tuesday night's game against Blackpool which saw Chesterfield pick up a point, Morgan (above), said, "I thought first half, it ended up being like a game of basketball - end to end. It was hard to believe that both teams were in the bottom eight. On reflection, we thought we could have won it, particularly in the second half. No doubt if you speak to Neil MacDonald he'd say the same thing! It was another good point, certainly on the back of the three at Gillingham."
Injury-wise there is good news for supporters, confirmed Morgan, "Everyone has come through Tuesday night so it's just a case of trying to keep players fresh, the boys that have been on the bench and in the squad - they need to keep the doing the work, it's just the freshness!
"Lids (Gary Liddle) will come back in - there's a certain amount of frustration from his point of view, he wants to show the supporters and his teammates what he can do.
"Angel (Martinez) has been out on the grass this morning and has done a functional session, which was great to see. It's important form both Angel's point of view and from ours as a staff that we put the reins on him and make sure when he comes back he's ready to go. The psychological level will be more testing than the physical. They're finely tuned athletes and there's things you can do. It'll be great to have him back!"
With a competitive squad and a push for places, Morgan admitted that every squad member is important and that the freshness is as important psychologically as physically, "That's what we try and do in training. The group comes together, they'll do a certain amount of training together, the boys that have been playing will come away for their cooling down and the lads that need extra will carry on.
"It's important that it's not two groups, they come together - we've spoken a lot about Jay O'Shea, his response to coming on the other night and scoring a cracking goal ... they've all got to be together, between now and the end of the season, some lads will play twelve games, some will play two, maybe one, but it might be the lad that plays the one will get us the three points - and those three points end up being huge.
"There probably will be changes on Saturday - the manager will be the one to ask about that! We'll look at ' do we need to freshen up certain areas' or 'is the team alright' and we just want to keep going - but the good thing from our point of view is that whoever we pick, everyone will be fresh and ready to go on Saturday afternoon!"
Southend will provide a tough test says Morgan, "They're currently sat 8th in the table, just outside the playoffs. They're a good team at home with a good mix of players and they're up there for a reason!
"The decision has been really tight this year and they have a real good structure and they work hard for each other. Phil Brown has always been involved in well-structured teams, he's an experienced man and he knows what he's doing! But he'll know how well we're doing. It'll be a tough game. It's a fantastic traditional football stadium down there with supporters on top of the pitch and, if we approach the game like we have been doing, it's a good opportunity for us to keep our little run going."
