Generous Gesture Boosts Coffers For Scout Trip

Friday 14th January 2011

A local company has made a generous donation towards a local scout group’s Canada trip after reading about the group's fundraising efforts in The Chesterfield Post.

1st Calow Scouts
are fundraising hard for a trip to Ontario for an adventure holiday and appealed for local residents or businesses to sponsor horses or races in their forthcoming Race Night on 22nd January.

Chairman of local football team Staveley MWFC and Director of Baris Facades & Linings Ltd, Terry Damms, saw the appeal and offered to donate prizes and cash to the group to boost the coffers.

Terry told The Chesterfield Post, "As a gesture we would like to donate 7 prizes of £25 each for the 1st Calow (St Peter's) Scout Group Race Night whilst also contributing £200 to the local scout group's drive to raise £25,000 for their trip overseas to Ontario.

"It is clearly a hugely worthwhile event and Baris Facades & Linings Ltd in conjunction with Staveley MWFC feel that this fund raising event should be one that the local community should support.

"On Saturday 22nd January 2011, we host our FA Vase game against Rye Utd and we hope the scout group's evening on the 22nd is a success as we hope our day is also."

Group Leader Steve Poole was overwhelmed by the gesture and thanked the club and company for their generosity, saying, "On behalf of everyone at 1st Calow, we'd like to offer our sincerest thanks for the remarkably generous gesture. I relayed the news to the Scout Leader last night, who was quite obviously overwhelmed.

"Purely by chance we a have a meeting tonight with the parents of the Scouts who are making the trip to Canada and the Scouts themselves, to discuss fundraising and how planning for the trip is progressing.

"With the Race Night now only just over a week away, the timing of this extremely kind boost to funds could not have been better, and will provide a major boost to everyone's morale.

"I will suggest to the Scouts this evening that we should send a delegation representing the group to support Staveley Miners Welfare FC at the club's forthcoming FA Vase game. The Group is always looking for ways to engage with and support the local community.

"Although based in Calow, the group attracts members from all around the Staveley, Chesterfield and Bolosver areas.  We take great pride in the group's heritage and in the opportunities we aim to provide for young people".

£25,000 is needed for the trip and scouts and their families are raising funds through various events. Anyone who can offer any support can check the Scout's website http://calowscouts.org.uk
