The award was presented to Stephanie by Baroness Smith of Basildon - herself a former Brownie - at a special ceremony held at the House of Lords in London on Thursday 1st December.

Young women from around the UK joined Stephanie in receiving their Queen's Guide Award.

The award sees participants take the lead in a number exciting areas including developing a personal skill, working within pioneering community action projects, and overseeing ambitious outdoor pursuits.

Stephanie, whose Queen's Guide achievements included organising a range of camps and residential trips, along with attending the Big Gig with her guides and taking part in the world record sleepover event, said: "The highlight of my Queen's Guide Award was taking part in a number of residential trips and expeditions. I also set up a community football team in my local area, which was really rewarding.

"Guiding has given me the opportunity to take part in a very wide range of activities. I firmly believe guiding is the best thing a young person can become involved with, in order to set them up for life."

The Queen's Guide Award is the most prestigious guiding award open to members between the ages of 16 and 25.  As well as the activities carried out by Stephanie, other recipients experienced challenging and innovative programmes such as working with the homeless and raising money for national charities.

Baroness Smith said: "The Queen's Guide Award requires a lot of dedication and hard work over the course of a year or more, and I congratulate these young women on their achievement. They are the future of guiding and I sincerely hope they will take their enthusiasm for guiding with them and explore all that Girlguiding UK has to offer."
