Thursday 8th March 2012
The Chesterfield Art Club will hold the first of their four annual Art Exhibitions this year at Ashover Parish Hall, Milken Lane, Ashover, to coincide with the village May Day Carnival.
The Exhibition is open over 3 days - Sat May 5th, Sun 6th and Mon 7th from 10am to 5pm and is FREE ADMISSION.
This year the exhibition is to be held over 3 days to accommodate the visitors to the Carnival and the nearby Caravan Rally. This will also give the villagers themselves, who are involved in the Monday Carnival, a chance to see the exhibition.
There are usually around 150 original works of art on show, covering a wide range of subjects, in a variety of different media, and most are for sale.
Admission is free, and there is plenty of car parking available.
This has always been an exhibition that attracts very favourable comments from people who come from near and far, and is well worth a visit.
The Chesterfield Art Club is a friendly, well-established club, first set up in 1929. We have a strong membership currently standing at around 75, but still have a limited number of places available for new members. No specific qualifications are required to join, just an honest interest in art, and a willingness to get stuck in.
The Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month at Whitecotes School, Chesterfield, between 7.30 and 9.30 pm, with occasional gaps in the calendar for holidays.
The Club seeks to promote art in an interesting and sociable way and as such, has a full and varied programme of activities throughout the year. The regular Friday meetings alternate between:
Worknights - with the option to work on a shared theme, or do your own thing; Nominated Subject nights - where we all bring in work, done at home to a given theme, for comment and advice
Demonstrations - given by visiting professional artists.
There are other non-Friday Club activities organised throughout the year varying from outdoor painting sessions, and organised visits, to the annual Club Exhibitions and competitions.
The annual membership fee is set at £22 for 2012, with an attendance fee of 50p at the Friday meetings, which includes refreshments and a monthly Newsletter. Visitors are welcome at all meetings being asked to pay £3 per visit, with a possible increase for more costly demonstrations.
If you wish to learn more about us come along to one of our meetings where you will be made most welcome, and can get a taste of what we are about.
