Tuesday 24th January 2012

Chesterfield Caledonians Celebrate 'Fantastic' Burns' Night

President Mark Macartney
welcomed the company which included the Mayor of Chesterfield, Councillor Peter Barr and Deputy Mayoress Mrs Diane Parsons, Committee Member Mrs Ellen Kinch said grace.

The haggis was piped in by piper Alastair Horsburgh and was addressed, in his inimitable style, by Past President Tim Cobb.

After dinner, Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Past President Tim Cobb, read the Fraternal Greetings from Kindred Associations. He then invited the Mayor to propose the Loyal Toast.

Tim then introduced Past President Ian Gordon to propose the Immortal Memory. Ian covered various aspects including parts of the History of our Association.

An amusing jovial 'Poetic Toast to the Lassies' was proposed by President Mark Macartney, and President's Consort Mrs Jen Macartney responded with her own poetic, witty version.

An absolutely fantastic evening of dancing followed, The Wullie McRobert Duo, a band from Dumfriesshire (the President's home county) provided the musical accompaniment for the dancing which went on into the early hours.

A great evening was brought to a close by the singing of Auld Lang Syne and a thank you from the President.

In his closing speech, the President, after thanking everyone, commented that he went to School with the drummer, ran the Boy Scouts and also worked together.
