After Ed Miliband was elected Leader of the Labour Party at the party Conference last week, Chesterfield Labour Party is reporting a rise in it's membership, saying it's seen an influx of new members since the leader's speech to conference.

MP for Chesterfield, Toby Perkins, has rallied behind the youngest son of the legendary scholar, Ralf Miliband, calling for the Labour Party to take the fight to the Coalition Government in Parliament and across the nation.

Mr. Perkins stressed the value and importance of support for the new leader of the party at a time when Chancellor George Osborne is indicating the most ruthless attack on public services in living memory in this month's Comprehensive Spending Review. The MP urged MPs, members and activists to campaign harder than ever to get across Labour's alternative policies, saying: "Ed ran a great campaign and I am behind him 100% as we continue to expose the Coalition Government's plans as irresponsible and unnecessary.

"He will make a great leader of the Labour Party and future prime minister. From the shadow cabinet to the branch member, from the unions to the Fabians, we have collectively elected one of the most dynamic politicians of the new generation. We must now take our arguments and policies to the streets to ensure that the Labour Party's policies are heard."
