A Chesterfield Law Centre worker is celebrating after winning a prestigious award at a ceremony aimed at celebrating the work of volunteers at organisations in the town.
Ravendeep Kailey (pictured left) found out
just how rewarding volunteering can be when she was presented with
the Volunteer of the Year Award 2010 by Natascha Engel, Member of Parliament for North
East Derbyshire.
The presentation took place at the AGM of Chesterfield & North
East Derbyshire Volunteer Centre on Friday 12th November.
Commenting on the winner Dave Radford, Centre Manager said: "Rav volunteers at The Law Centre. She was nominated for her warmth, hard work and enthusiasm and she always has a smile on her face.
"Through volunteering Rav has been able to build up her confidence and skills so much so that she has now found a part time job. She still continues her voluntary work at the Law Centre, but Rav is a prime example of how rewarding and beneficial voluntary work can be and we are grateful to all our volunteers for their contribution and help in making a difference."
Second place went to The Save the Children shop team who have amounted over 150 years of volunteering time between them.
Julie Edwards, Manager, says, "I am very proud of every single member of the team."
Third place went to Alan Slack, a volunteer with Sporting Futures for his work in mentoring a young person with challenging behaviour.
Commenting after the presentation Natascha Engel MP said: "I would like to congratulate all of the award winners. Without the tireless support of volunteers many local voluntary and community groups would not be able to function.
"Volunteers are their lifeblood and the Volunteer of the Year Awards are a wonderful way of recognising the invaluable contribution they make."
