Bin collections, street cleaning and leisure activities are just some of the Bolsover District Council services that will be disrupted on Tuesday 14th October 2014, as public service workers nationally take part in a one day strike.

The strike will also see services such as housing repairs, Contact Centres and environmental health functions suspended for the day as local government officers stay at home.

Bolsover District Council has confirmed that all buildings and facilities will be closed to the public on the day of the strike, but the Council is working to ensure that essential services - such as Housing Wardens and emergency repairs - will be operational on the day of the strike.

Residents in South Normanton, Pinxton, Broadmeadows will see their waste collections affected, but are advised to still put out their wheelie bins as normal as services may still operate if a deal can be struck before the proposed strike date.

If bins are not collected on the strike day, then the following actions will be undertaken regarding waste collections:

• Burgundy Bins - These will be collected as normal as this is undertaken by an external contractor.
  
  
• Black Bins - Households who miss a collection due to the industrial action will have their black bin collected the following Tuesday, 21st October and then again as normal on Tuesday 28th October. Green bin collections will be suspended until 4th November. No side waste will be collected. Residents are also advised that they can put their food waste in their black bin during this period to avoid any build up of smells.
  
  
• Green Bins - Households who miss a collection due to the industrial action will have their green bin collected on the next scheduled collection (Tuesday 28th October).

The strike has been called by the main public sector Unions who claim the Governments proposed pay offers do not meet their members' needs and are calling on them to reconsider their current pay proposals.

Councillor Eion Watts, Leader of Bolsover District Council said, "This is a national issue and one that the Council has no control over, but we will have teams on standby should any emergencies arise that need to be dealt with.

"We have put into place arrangements to reduce the problems associated with bin collections, but apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our residents and hopefully normal service will be resumed as soon as possible."

Access and information to council services will still be available via their website www.bolsover.gov.uk but anyone who experiences a problem or requires further information should contact the Council on 01246 242424.

Meanwhile, North East Derbyshire District Council has confirmed that any resident who has a housing issue should contact Rykneld Homes, the Council's Strategic Housing Partner, on 01246 217670.

Residents are being advised to still put out their wheelie bins as normal services may still operate if a deal can be struck before the proposed strike date.

Councillor Graham Baxter MBE, Leader of North East Derbyshire District Council, (left), said, "The situation is not ideal and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by what is a national issue that we have no control over. Early indications show that the majority of our staff will be on strike so this will severely disrupt what services we can provide.

"The most notable being waste collections, but we have put plans into place to help lessen the impact associated with this and any other emergencies that may arise during this twenty-four hour strike."
