Work Begins On New Pavilion For Hasland's Eastwood Park

Friday 10th October 2014

Chesterfield Borough Council's builders and apprentices are playing a key role in building a new pavilion at Eastwood Park.

Chesterfield Borough Council's builders and apprentices are playing a key role in building a new pavilion at Eastwood Park.
(l-r) Councillor Chris Ludlow, executive member for environment; Councillor Amanda Serjeant, executive member for leisure, culture and tourism; Jack Clough, apprentice and Councillor Dave Allen as work begins on building the pavilion.

The work is carried out by the council, which owns and maintains the park in Hasland using the council's in-house team of builders and apprentices.

The project has received £150,000 in funding from Sport England's Inspired Facilities fund with £201,000 in funding from the council.

Councillor Chris Ludlow, Chesterfield Borough Council's executive member for environment, said: "This new pavilion will really benefit the sports clubs who use the park regularly and other residents and users of the park will be able to sue the new toilet facilities inside.

"I'm also proud the work is being carried out by the council's in-house team of builders and apprentices, allowing us to create employment opportunities for our skilled craftsmen and apprentices."

The new pavilion will provide changing facilities for sports groups using the park, including bowling, football and cricket clubs as well as a tea room and kitchen facilities.

The building will also have new male, female and disabled toilets which will be open to users of the park to replace the ones currently open on Hasland Road.

The new pavilion should be completed in the new year.

Eastwood Park reopened in June 2013 after a 10 month refurbishment thanks to £1.3 million in funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund.

Work carried out at the park included: restoring the fountain, creating a community garden, a mini orchard and rose garden, a wildlife area, children's play area and work to refurbish Hasland Village Hall.

The park was also designated a Queen Elizabeth II Playing Field in honour of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
