Attestation Ceremony For Fourteen New 'Specials'

Six students, an IT analyst and a hotel worker are amongst the latest recruits to join the ranks of Derbyshire's Special Constabulary.

Fourteen Special Constables will be formally welcomed when they attend an official attestation ceremony this evening (Monday, April 14th) at police headquarters in Ripley, where they will swear an oath to the Queen and be presented with their warrant cards.

The constables will be based at various locations across the county covering all policing divisions.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Karl Smethem said: "It gives me great pleasure to welcome our latest team of special constable recruits into Derbyshire Constabulary.

"Our special constables have a long and proud history of providing vital support to the force, and in particular giving very welcome assistance to our communities and to police colleagues."

The group will read the oath of allegiance in the presence of Magistrate Paul Beard, who will present them with their course certificates.

The ceremony will also be attended by Derbyshire's new High Sheriff David Coleman and the Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Charles.
