College Students & Ozbox In Gruelling Fundraiser For Thomas Fletcher

Monday 16th May 2011

Public Services students from Chesterfield College teamed up with Derbyshire Constabulary’s Ozbox scheme to raise over £514 for Thomas Fletcher, a toddler from Walton who suffers from a rare lung disease that may eventually lead to him needing a lung transplant.

Ozbox Founder, Steve Osbaldeston receives the funds raised by College students from Public Services Lecturer, Tracy Clements.

After completing a six-week course in the boxing-based fitness programme, the mixture of pre and post 16 students took part in a sponsored three-hour non-stop gym session that was difficult to say the least!

Many of the students have now become 'boxing leaders' and are now set to go on further training courses which will allow them to become Ozbox mentors in their communities.

Ozbox is a free fitness programme for youngsters aged 9 to 19 and combines circuit training and boxing skills to improve confidence and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Ozbox founder, Steve Osbaldeston explains, "Personally, I've found this group of students the best I've worked with at Ozbox. They've been a pleasure to train with and are always keen to go that extra mile. The fantastic amount of funds that they've managed to raise will go towards an electric trike that will enable Thomas to go on bike rides with his brother Alex, mum Nikki and dad Richard."
