"Expect the unexpected!" is the message Reds manager, Nicky Law, is giving his players as they prepare to play their first game in a fortnight on Saturday.
Alfreton Town are at home, facing a Worcester City team who have produced some very good results on their travels including a 3-2 victory at Boston United in the FA Cup.
They have only lost once away from home, a 3-0 reverse from the monster trek to Blyth Spartans, but it’s their patchy home form that is the reason they come into the game in 12th place in the table.
Boss Law said: "They will be something of an unknown quantity to us. They have a new manager who has brought a lot of new faces in and they have picked up some excellent results and some indifferent ones, but that is something you get with a new group of people.
"It just once again emphasises the strength and difficulty of the league that they [Worcester] can go to Boston and win and to Telford and draw. It is going to be another difficult game for us but it is one we must be ready for."
Law has a boost to his team in the form of the return from injury of Darren Stride and Jake Moult, plus central defender Aden Flint is available again after a one-match suspension.
He will be without striker Paul Clayton who begins a three-match suspension following his sending off four minutes into stoppage time in the goalless draw at home to AFC Telford United on October 16. Matt Wilson will be out for up to another fortnight following a recurrence of an ankle injury.
The Reds have no midweek games until the end of November and Law says the stop-start nature of October has played havoc with trying to keep his squad match fit.
In what has been a five-weekend month, this Saturday's home game will be only a third outing for Law's side. He said: "October has been a real stop-start affair with our premature exit in the FA Cup and the demise of Ilkeston Town. It's been very disappointing but we now have to get the momentum going again.
"One positive is that we have managed to get players back after injury but on the other hand we now have the problem of getting some of the boys who have been injured and some of the players who haven’t figured much match fit.
"It's not easy because all the training in the world doesn't compensate for playing matches. One way is getting players out on loan. We have had a couple of enquiries about a couple of players but disappointingly they haven't been positive to those moves and obviously haven't done themselves any favours in the pecking order for places."
One player who has earned Law's plaudits for his positivity is midfield man Dan Dillon. The former Hinckley United captain joined the Reds less than 48 hours before the Telford home game, but hadn't played for a month due to injury and found himself an unused substitute in that fixture.
With the Reds having no game last weekend, Dillon was allowed to play for Evo-Stik Premier Division club Stocksbridge Park Steels last Saturday and on Tuesday evening to get some much needed match minutes under his belt.
Law added: "When Dan joined us he was lacking match fitness and he very pleasingly jumped at the chance to get a couple of games in with Stocksbridge. He will now be somewhere near for this Saturday and is definitely in our plans."
