Law Frustrated After Losing Out To The Weather

Thursday 13th December 2012

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law (below) was left a frustrated man after seeing a second home game in a week fall victim to the weather elements.

Alfreton Town manager Nicky Law was left a frustrated man after seeing a second home game in a week fall victim to the weather elements.A week after losing the Wrexham home league game to a waterlogged pitch last week, the Reds had Tuesday night's scheduled Derbyshire Senior Cup third round home tie against Buxton cancelled late on as rapidly dropping temperatures froze parts of the Impact Arena playing surface.

And with no game this weekend, the Reds will only have played once since the Leyton Orient FA Cup tie on December 2nd, by the time they take on Cambridge United at home next Tuesday.

"The Buxton postponement was a bit of a blow because we were going to give people like Phil Barnes, Anton Brown, Adam Quinn, Simon Russell, Gavan Holohan and quite a few others a full 90 minutes run out" said Law.

"It would have aided our pre-Christmas preparation no end but there is nothing much we can do about it. We will look to get an 11 v 11 game sorted on Saturday but we will have to wait and see if the forecast of warmer weather comes off" added Law.

And with just two more games before Christmas, the Reds boss is now having to re-evaluate his options.

"We are coming up to a stage this weekend where it is only just over two weeks until the transfer window opens.

"The idea of bulking the squad up recently was for all the games we had scheduled for this month but the postponements and two cup exits have put paid to the planned intensity.

"It is a possibility that we might get a couple of players out on loan soon to free some money up and obviously Anthony Wilson has gone".

Meanwhile, Alfreton's home game against Wrexham has been rearranged for Tuesday, January 8th, 2013, with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The Buxton Senior Cup tie is awaiting a new date.
