Saturday 16th April 2016
It's the fixture every Chesterfield supporter has been waiting for as local rivals Sheffield United visit the Proact on Saturday.
With just five games in the 2015/16-campaign left to play and Chesterfield still in dangerous territory in the league table, facing The Blades who, under Nigel Atkins, are sitting in 10th with hopes of a play off place fading though not mathematically impossible, there will be an undoubtedly febrile atmosphere in the sell out crowd.
It was Chesterfield's Assistant gaffer Chris Morgan (left), who faced the press on Thursday and admitted that, having left the Blades as recently as Christmas, it would be a tasty fixture for him, "The motivational side of the game should take care of itself. From our point of view, we want to build on the back of last Saturday's result at Oakwell.
"Everyone keeps saying' it will be a strange game for you' - but I now work for Chesterfield Football Club - but our main priority is three points on Saturday and to carry on from the performance last week."
With news breaking just before the press conference that young loan player Declan John had returned to his parent club, Morgan expanded, "Declan left to go on international duty and felt his hamstring, went back to Cardiff for treatment - he was progressing and went in to the fitness room to do some running and felt it again, so both physios have touched base and with only four weeks left of the season, took the decision. We're disappointed to lose a player."
There are no new injuries to report says Morgan, "They all look good, they've all trained well this morning and they are looking forward to the weekend."
One name that will not be on the team sheet is Jamal Campbell-Ryce who will miss the game due to suspension, though he was unlikely to feature against Sheffield United due to the terms of his loan deal, "All the relevant things have been checked. He will be a miss, his experience and his personality has been a great addition to the dressing room - it's a case of him getting a rest and he'll be back on for selection."
Sheffield United present a tough test says Morgan, "They're a team packed with good players, experienced players and young players. Nigel has strengthened all the way through the season."
With up to three thousand blades fans expected to attend, the away end will be full and demand has also been high for the home stands, with both sets of fans and players keen to bag the bragging rights.
Morgan admitted that the impact of the crowd in games like this is huge, "Any ground has a better atmosphere when there's a lot of away supporters in as well, so they will get behind their team, which normally stirs your players up. It will be a great game, a great atmosphere and a game where you have to do the right thing!"
Fans should be reminded that the Kick Off for this game is 1pm.
