Festive Fixes - Public Service Opening And Changed Times Advice For Xmas

We've put together as much information as we can to help you know which of Chesterfield's Public services such as Buses, Pharmacies, bin collections, Market, Leisure Centres etc are open, closed or have changed times over the Christmas Festivities.

STAGECOACH BUS TIMES

Leading bus operator Stagecoach has announced that up to and including Monday 23rd December, all Stagecoach bus services will operate as normal.

On Christmas Eve, 24th December, a Monday to Friday school holiday service will operate until around 7pm. However, the service 82A journey departing Chesterfield at 5pm to Langwith Junction WILL NOT operate.

No buses will run on Christmas Day, 25th December, Boxing Day, 26ht December, and New Year's Day, 1st January, in Chesterfield.

A Saturday service will operate on Friday 27th, Saturday 28th and Monday 30th December. On Sunday 29th December, a normal Sunday service will operate. On New Year's Eve, 31st December, a Saturday service will run until around 7pm.

A Monday to Friday school holiday service will operate on 2nd and 3rd January before Stagecoach's operation gets back to normal on Saturday 4th January.

There will be a special service operating on Boxing Day and New Year's Day on key routes in Sheffield between around 8am and 6pm for a flat fare of £1.

NEDDC Burgundy Bin Collections

Burgundy Bin collections will continue to be made fortnightly, with collections falling on Christmas and New Year weeks amended due to the Bank Holiday. 

If your burgundy bin is normally collected on the same week as your green bin, you will receive burgundy bin collections during weeks commencing 2nd December, 16th December, 30th December, 13th January etc.

If your burgundy bin is normally collected on the same week as your black bin, you will receive burgundy bin collections during weeks commencing 9th December, Saturday 21st December*, 6th January etc.

* Please note, burgundy bin collections Saturday 21st December are for residents whose collection day would fall on Wednesday 25th December.

Please ensure that you present for 7am on collection day. If other residents forget to present on collection day, the crew could reach your property earlier than usual and that is why all residents are advised to ensure they present for 7am so they don't miss their collection.

If you miss a collection please save your recycling and present it on the next collection day.

If you have got too much recycling to fit it all in your burgundy bin, you can put out extra burgundy bin recycling in a box or bag (e.g. carrier bag, white bin liner etc).  Please don't mix your caddy paper with main bin recycling.  To avoid confusion, do not put recycling in black refuse sacks.

Customer Service Centre -
New Square, call centre and the Town Hall, Rose Hill are closed on:

  • Christmas Day, Wednesday 25th December
  • Boxing Day, Thursday 26th December
  • Friday 27th December
  • Saturday 28th December
  • Sunday 29th December
  • New Year's Day, Wednesday 1st January.

All other days are open as usual.


The Pavements Shopping Centre will be closed on:

  • Christmas Day, Wednesday 25th December
  • Boxing Day, Thursday 26th December
  • New Year’s Day, Wednesday 1st January

but will also open until 7pm on:

  • Wednesday 18th December
  • Thursday 19th December
  • Friday 20th December
  • Monday 23rd December

NOTE: Opening hours of individual shops will vary.


Chesterfield open-air market will host a market every day from Thursday 12th December to Tuesday 24th December.

There will be no markets on:

  • Christmas Day, Wednesday 25th December
  • Boxing Day, Thursday 26th December
  • New Year’s Day, Wednesday 1st January

Chesterfield Market Hall will be closed on:

  • Christmas Day, Wednesday 25th December
  • Boxing Day, Thursday 26th December
  • New Year’s Day, Wednesday 1st January

The Market Hall will open additionally on Sunday 15th and Sunday 22nd December: noon to 4pm - selected traders only.


The box office for the Pomegranate Theatre and the Winding Wheel will be closed on:

  • Christmas Day, Wednesday 25th December
  • New Year's Day, Wednesday 1st January

and the box office will also be open for shorter hours on:

  • Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24th December: 10am to 2.30pm
  • Boxing Day, Thursday 26th December: 1.30pm to 7pm
  • New Year's Eve, Tuesday 31st December: 10am to 2.30pm


The Visitor Information Centre, Rykneld Square will close early on:

  • Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24th December - at 4pm
  • New Year's Eve, Tuesday 31st December - at 4pm

The Visitor Information Centre will then be closed on the following days:

  • Christmas Day, Wednesday 25th December
  • Boxing Day, Thursday 26th December
  • Friday 27th December

Chesterfield Museum will open on the following days and times:

  • Monday 23rd December, 10am to 4pm
  • Saturday 28th December, 10am to 4pm
  • Monday 30th December, 10am to 4pm
  • Normal opening hours from Thursday 2nd January.

Please note: Chesterfield Museum is usually closed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday. Admission is FREE.


Revolution House will open on the following days and times:

  • Saturday 14th to Tuesday 24th December, 11am to 4pm
  • Friday 27th to Tuesday 31st December, 11am to 4pm
  • Closed from Wednesday 1st January

The Christmas carol concert takes place on Monday 16th December at 6.30pm
Admission is FREE


Queen's Park Sports Centre and the Healthy Living Centre, Staveley will be closed on:

  • Christmas Day, Wednesday 25th December
  • Boxing Day, Thursday 26th December
  • Friday 27th December
  • New Year's Day, Wednesday 1st January.

The leisure centres will also close early, at 4pm on:

  • Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24th December
  • New Year’s Eve, Tuesday 31st December

The Healthy Living Centre's midwifery unit will open on:

  • Tuesday 24th December, open 8am - 4pm 
  • Friday 27th December, 9am - 2pm (rest of centre closed)
  • Tuesday 31st December, 8am - 4pm

Time Beauty at the Healthy Living Centre will open on:

  • Tuesday 24th December, 9am - 4pm 
  • Friday 27th December, 9am - 2pm (rest of centre closed)
