House Fire In New Whittington - Update

Saturday 12th May 2012

House Fire In New Whittington - UpdateFire Investigations continue this morning into a blaze at a house in New Whittington.

Last night roads were sealed off around the house whilst fire crews battled the fire. Fire crews were called to the property on Mitchell way at 23.30pm. A woman and two young children, rescued from an upstairs window were taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital where they are believed to have been treated for smoke inhalation.

Investigations are being carried out as to the cause of the blaze. A spokesman for the Derbyshire fire and Rescue Service gave a statement to The Chesterfield Post this morning saying, "Derbyshire Fire and Rescue last night attended a serious house fire on Mitchell Way, New Whittington. The attending fire crews were confronted by a well-established and severe house fire. One adult and two children trapped in the house at the time of the fore starting were alerted by a smoke alarm on the premises.

"Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus rescued the occupants and passed them onto colleagues from the Ambulance Service and they were then conveyed to hospital. Crews then tackled the fire to prevent the spread to neighbouring properties. A total of three fire appliances were called to the fire and it is clear that lives that the family were saved by working smoke alarms fitted at the property."

Fire Officers will be returning to the area today to talk about the and the importance of working smoke alarms and to provide info regarding prevention of fires in the house.
