ASBO Bans Chesterfield Man
From Town Centre

Derbyshire Police and Chesterfield Borough Council have been granted an ASBO against a man who was continually drunk and caused harassment in Chesterfield town centre.

Christopher John Stevenson, 31, of Park Road, Chesterfield, repeatedly ignored police warnings to curb his behaviour and regularly drank excessive amounts of alcohol in town centre pubs and in public areas.

The Anti-Social Behaviour Order states that Stevenson must NOT:

  • Act in a manner that is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress to any person in the borough of Chesterfield.
  • Attend Chesterfield town centre except for pre-arranged professional appointments, pre-arranged prescription appointments and passing through on public transport, attending court and attending the Job Centre on Markham Road.
  • Remain at any shop, commercial premises or private dwellings when asked to leave by the owner or occupier thereof.
  • Consume alcohol or be in possession of any open vessel containing alcohol in any outdoor public place in Chesterfield.

The order is in place until August 12, 2012 and if Stevenson breaks it's terms and conditions before then he risks arrest and a jail sentence.

PC Steve O'Callaghan, of the Chesterfield Town Centre Safer Neighbourhood Team, said, "This man is a persistent offender who has caused repeated drunken anti-social behaviour in Chesterfield town centre and is now suffering the consequences of his actions.

"We are dedicated to making Chesterfield a safer place to work and visit and this should be a warning and an example to others that we will take positive action every time."

A leaflet, which includes a photograph of Stevenson and the full details of his ASBO, has been produced by Chesterfield Community Safety Partnership (CSP). Copies have been distributed in his home area and places he is known to hang around.

Chesterfield CSP Anti-Social Behaviour Coordinator Dianne Illsley added, "We hope this sends out a clear message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in the borough.

"We listened to what residents and local business owners told us and this order is part of our commitment to protecting them from anti-social behaviour."

Anyone who witnesses Stevenson breaching the terms and conditions of the ASBO should call Derbyshire Police on 0345 123 3333 or Chesterfield Borough Council's Neighbourhood and Housing Services on 01246 345068.
