Four Warnings And One Arrest
During Nuisance Bike Patrols

Friday 3rd September 2010
Police are catching up with nuisance off road motor bikers in the region. As part of Operation Earhart one man was arrested and four received warnings in NE Derbyshire in the last ten days. Officers from the Clay Cross area Safer Neighbourhood Teams and Derbyshire County Council Countryside Rangers carried out four patrols around the Five Pits Trail and Morton Pit Tip.

During this joint operation three riders were stopped and received warnings for the use of motorcycles off road and a driver received a warning for doing a handbrake turn in a public car park. If they're caught using a bike or car in an anti-social manner again the vehicle will be seized from them and destroyed by police.

An 18-year-old man was also arrested on the Five Pits Trail after officers stopped him and realised he was wanted for the breach of a court injunction.

One man was cautioned relating to a poaching offence and officers gathered information about possible drug use in the area.

The Operation began after a number of calls to police about nuisance motorbikes in the areas.

They were carried out on four different days between Sunday, August 22nd and Wednesday, September 1st.

Police Community Support Officer Mike Coates said, "The issue of nuisance motorbikes is a priority for residents in the area and we will continue to target it through operations like this to catch offenders in the act.

"Overall, the operation was a success and shows how partnership working can help tackle community problems."

Further off-road bike patrols will be carried out across NE Derbyshire in the coming weeks.

If you have any information regarding nuisance motorbikes in your neighbourhood call police on 0345 123 3333.
