Wednesday 8th October 2010
With the international break disrupting the Premier League and npower Championship fixture schedules this weekend, The Football League has launched a new campaign encouraging fans to get their football fix at a local League 1 or League 2 club.
From Friday, all 4 home nations are involved in European qualifiers, closing the gates of Old Trafford, Elland Road, and Pride Park but Hillsborough, Don Valley Stadium and the B2net Stadium all remain open for business as npower Leagues1 and 2 boast a full programme of matches.
The League's 'You Know Where You Would Rather Be' campaign encourages football fans to get out of spending Saturday afternoon traipsing around the shops by heading into the lower leagues. National sports station, TalkSPORT will be promoting the campaign along with The Football League website and official Twitter site. Fans are also being approached through Facebook.
"There is a huge amount of terrific football being played this weekend", said Football League Chairman Greg Clarke, who has appeared on BBC Radio 5 Live to discuss the campaign.
"I would strongly encourage anyone who fancies seeing a match this weekend to get down to their local League 1 or 2 club. If they haven't been before, they may just find themselves surprised by the entertaining football being played, the good value ticket prices and the authentic matchday atmosphere.
"It's football to be proud of."
In this area the fans of Manchester United, Sheffield United and Derby County can make a beeline to the Spireites B2net Stadium where Chesterfield play Southend United, kick-off 3.00pm.
After last week's thrilling 10 goal thriller against Crewe, and the midweek cup drama in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, second placed Chesterfield may just be the in-form side to see.
The simple Football League message is clear 'You Know Where You'd Rather Be This Weekend.'
