Tuesday 26th October 2010
The Chairman of Chesterfield Football Club has spoken to fans after last Saturday's game against Shrewsbury Town which saw the biggest home league crowd since 1997 - a total of 7,777.
Barrie Hubbard praised the majority of fans for their behaviour and support for the club, "We want to thank our supporters for heeding the club's advice to buy a match ticket in advance, because for the first time this season, there was very little queuing ahead of kick-off time despite it being our biggest crowd."
However, the club has revealed that four Shrewsbury fans and two Chesterfield fans were arrested by police for public order offences at the weekend and stated they will be banned from the B2net Stadium if found guilty. A fan that ran onto the pitch was also arrested.
Mr Hubbard (pictured left) had this warning for fans wishing to cause trouble at future matches: "We are a family focused club which does not tolerate misbehaviour. I can confirm that any supporters found guilty of any offences will automatically be banned by the club from attending matches at the B2net Stadium."
The club is also reminding fans that any encroachment onto the playing area will also lead to an automatic ban from the ground.
The Chairman said: "We are determined that the tiny minority of supporters who lost it will not be allowed to spoil what has become a fantastic family friendly match day experience at the B2net Stadium."
He added: "The isolated incidents at the weekend were the first we have experienced in our new stadium and because of the firm action taken, and the lessons we have learnt, we expect them to be the last."
In an attempt to 'nip this in the bud', the club is asking that anyone who has any information about any of the incidents during the afternoon should contact police on 0345 123 33 33 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Meanwhile, to help supporters get their tickets in advance for the next home game against Accrington Stanley, to avoid any queuing next Tuesday 2nd November, kick off 7.45pm, the club has special late night opening for the ticket office (and club shop) this Friday 29th October until 7.00pm.
It is also possible for supporters to order tickets over the telephone for collection on match day by ringing the dedicated ticket line on 01246 488232.
