Staveley Make It 32 Points From 36 And 7 Home Wins

Tuesday 8th March 2011

Staveley MWFC made it 32 points from the last 36 points and 7 wins on the bounce at home with a 1-0 victory fought out against a spirited Bottesford Town side who gave the league leaders a battle in front of another very pleasing attendance of 102.

The side are lining up and grinding results out and the record book will show yet another victory at home since the last defeat way back in August last year and now takes the unbeaten league run to 130 days.

Sides are coming to Inkersall Road to battle all the way and set themselves up not to be beaten, showing little enthusiasm to commit players forward in numbers and it will take time to break sides down as Manager Billy Fox adopts the "least risky" philosophy in the quest to get Staveley into the NCEL Premiership for the first time since 2001 when the club were relegated back to NCEL Division 1.

A first half was dominated by the ball not really being in any sides penalty area and with each side creating little. Staveley were off the pace, all too often not going forward but sideward's with little pace and a lazy languid look about them.

Admitting to ripping the lads at half time, Billy Fox saw the second half performance go the way he thought it would do, grinding the opposition down and seeing them tire and then a change in formation and more adventure and pace about the game to bring the 3 points - and that's the way it went.

It was a goal on 67 minutes that broke the deadlock. An attempt to get the ball from the back of an attacker was penalised, rarely by the referee, but this time it was some 22 yards out of the Bottesford net. Aymen Tahar's free kick nestled beautifully in the bottom corner as he scored his 16th goal of the season.

Scott Dinnigan made a late block and Bottesford had an effort hit the woodwork in the 87th minute but rarely did Bottesford pose a threat.

Not the best performance by Staveley, but yet again 3 points on the board and as the games are running out, the initial target of 76 points is now some 8 points away with 8 games to play.

Next up is Parkgate FC on Tuesday in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Senior Cup noting it is a 7:30pm kick off at Parkgate.
