Chesterfield may have to wait a while before it finds out whether an ASDA will be placed on the site of the Netto supermarket on Sheffield Road.

In May of this year it was announced that ASDA had bought out Danish retail chain Netto, who have 193 stores throughout the UK. It was hoped the deal would be completed this summer with most stores converting by mid 2011.

Spokespersons for both supermarket chains have confirmed to the Chesterfield Post today that a decision by the Office of Fair Trading regarding the takeover is still awaited and that, even if approved, competition regulations mean that not every store will automatically change. Some Netto shops could be sold off rather than revert to ASDA. A decision on each individual store will be made once the deal has gone through.

In a separate development ASDA revealed that they are not currently looking at developing any other sites in Chesterfield. Philip Bartram, Communications Director for the new store arm of the retail chain, confirmed he was not aware of any plans for the building of any new ASDA store in the town.
