NHS Derbyshire staff are the happiest in the NHS!A report out yesterday suggests that staff morale within the NHS Derbyshire County remains among the highest throughout the NHS.

More employees are satisfied in their jobs than previously and more than before would recommend the NHS as a good place to work, according to the results of a survey conducted throughout NHS Derbyshire County and Derbyshire Community Health Services.

Results of the 2010 NHS Staff Survey, which was conducted between October and December last year and published by the Quality Care Commission, shows employees remain among the top 20 per cent in the NHS nationally for job satisfaction.

Staff were asked to respond to questions in 38 'key areas'. NHS Derbyshire County ranked among the best 20 per cent nationally in 18. In the previous survey, conducted in 2009, the Trust was ranked in the top 20 per cent in nine key areas.

Across the two organisations, 59 per cent of staff responded to the survey.

More workers say they would recommend NHS Derbyshire County as a place for patients to receive treatment than previously, while 70 per cent say hand-washing materials are always available. Both scores were well above the national average.

There was also an increase in the number of staff who would recommend the trust as a place to work or receive treatment, with the results again placing the organisation in the top 20 per cent across the UK.

Amanda Rawlings, Director of Human Resources at NHS Derbyshire County, said: "Our staff are our greatest asset so I'm delighted that so many people took the time to complete the survey.

"It is good to see that such a high proportion of our staff would recommend the trust's service to family and friends and that so many rate it as a good place to work.

"We are pleased that we are in the top 20 per cent of primary care trusts for 18 of the findings, but we do recognise that there is always room for improvement.  It's vital that we listen to the feedback from our people and act upon their suggestions, so we will work hard to improve even further in those areas which have been highlighted by our staff."

Copies of the full survey are available from the Care Quality Commission website at www.cqc.org.uk
